Hematology and Coagulation Prerequisites: admission to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program. Corequisites: AHMT 205, AHMT 210, AHMT 295v. This course presents the origin of the various types of blood cells with emphasis on the red and white cells. Students learn about human hematological disorders and classify these based on clinical laboratory findings. This course also includes blood coagulation with emphases on the theory, procedures, and practical applications and provides an overview of the coagulation process, disorders, and laboratory evaluations associated with the disorders. Laboratory experiences emphasize the morphology and identification of common human blood cells and various procedures used in the hematology and hemostasis departments including both manual and semi-automated methods of assessment as well as phlebotomy. |
