Note: Students must be admitted to the Honors Program to register for this class. Have you ever wondered if a scientific idea can change human culture? This course will explore some of the key ideas in science that have had tremendous influence in the cultural evolution of humans and how we interact with our environment and each other. Students will follow any one of these key ideas through history, documenting the positive and negative consequences of acquiring this knowledge on human society. Gaining experience in academic research, public speaking and defending complex ideas while exploring these scientific paradigm-shifts and their nuances will be a part of the course. Students can choose to use these 4 credits to satisfy either a Natural Science or Global graduation requirement.

Honors: Science & Consequence

Prerequisite: acceptance into the Scholars Program.This course involves critical analysis of global perspectives, ethnocentrism and cultural pluralism coordinated and examined using major themes in the sciences. Skills in critical reading/analysis and the development of ideas through argument, writing and oral communication will be utilized in order to engage student's knowledge, imagination and creativity.
